Word Finder Tools

Three small lookup tools live here, each built on a different open dataset. Pick the one that matches what you're actually trying to find.

Where the Data Comes From

All three tools run entirely in your browser against open, offline datasets — nothing you type is sent to a server. Rhymes is built on the CMU Pronouncing Dictionary (CMUdict), a public-domain pronunciation dictionary from Carnegie Mellon University covering roughly 125,000 words. Synonyms is built on Princeton WordNet 3.0, a lexical database that groups words into precise sets of synonyms called synsets. Unscramble is built on an open, permissively licensed English word list of roughly 274,000 entries.

Common Questions

Do these tools need an account or internet connection after loading?

No account, ever. Each tool fetches a small slice of its dataset from this site as you search, then looks answers up locally in your browser — nothing you type is sent anywhere.

Why don't all three tools share one search box?

They run on three unrelated datasets and answer three different questions, so combining them behind one box would mean picking a mode first anyway. Three focused pages is simpler than one page pretending to be three tools.

Are these dictionaries complete?

No dictionary is. Each dataset here covers well over 100,000 entries, which catches the vast majority of everyday words, but obscure terms, brand-new slang, and proper nouns will sometimes come up empty.

Is this free?

Yes, all three tools are free to use with no limits. The site is supported by on-page advertising.
